  • Review the terms and provisions of the WorkSource Wage Subsidy Agreement and the expectations and responsibilities of the Employer and the Employee
  • Provide on-going support and assistance to maximize successful placements

Requirements

As an Employer you may qualify if:
  • You have been in business for one year or more
  • Your business is located in the Greater Victoria Area, which includes the Southern Gulf Islands and Sooke/Jordan River
  • You are looking to fill a full-time position of 30 hours per week or more with a view to long-term employment for the eligible applicant

Qualified applicants are referred to WorkSource by going to their local Employment Assistance Services office for a referral to our program. All potential employees must be EI Eligible and currently unemployed.
  • Potential Employees are encouraged to self-market themselves to suitable Employers, outlining the benefits of the wage subsidy program
  • Potential Employers are encouraged by WorkSource to refer clients (potential employees) who have not heard about the wage subsidy program to WorkSource

Contract / Contributions / Obligations:
The following process is required by all employers:
  1. Contact our office @ 479-8066 to have an application package faxed or emailed to you.
  2. Read all documentation before filling in the application form. The sample contract will contain the obligations and expectations that you must abide by in order to qualify. Fill the Employer Application out in full. Please remember to sign and date it. You can fax this application and a detailed job description back to us @ 479-8114.
If you already have a potential employee:
Complete the Schedule A*, which should contain a list of new skills the employee will be learning with your application.
*Schedule A / Work Experience Plan information is very important. WorkSource is able to rationalize the amount of wage subsidy based on the Employer providing a clear Work Experience Plan. Hiring Employees with extensive skills related to the position may disqualify Employers from receiving a subsidy. WorkSource reserves the right to cap
  3. subsidy amounts at anytime.
  4. Approval for WorkSource is based on several requirements: length of time in business, history with WorkSource, existing employee ratio, WCB coverage, Revenue Canada Remittance number, intention of on-going employment and ability to provide skills development. The criteria for approval are reviewed on an individual basis. Once we have received your application, the WorkSource Consultant for your area will call you to confirm receipt of your application and go over any questions you may have.
  5. WorkSource may be able to refer resumes to you if we have participants who meet your basic qualifications, although we still encourage you to advertise your position elsewhere (ex:www.jobbank.gc.ca). Participants being referred to your position are contacted first to ascertain their interest in the job. Once we have referred a resume to you it is your responsibility to call, interview and select an appropriate candidate. We do not prescreen applicants. The final hiring decision is up to your discretion.
  6. All candidates must be eligible for the WorkSource Wage Subsidy Program. If you receive resumes from other sources, you may want to ascertain if the candidate is currently registered or entitled to use the program. If they are not sure if they qualify they can contact their local EAS Office.
  7. Once a candidate has been selected, a Schedule A / Work Experience Plan will need to be submitted. The subsidy amount will be based on new skill development and we will use the Schedule A / Work Experience Plan as a guideline (see section 2). WorkSource will need approximately 3 - 4 days to process your application and draw up a contract. If your potential employee needs to register for our program first, this process will take longer as WorkSource will need to verify their eligibility. Your WorkSource consultant will then meet with you to sign the paperwork and go through program obligations and expectations.
  8. Your WorkSource Consultant will explain the Payment Claim Form process and the Monitor process, in detail, at the contract signing.
