How to Apply
You must contact your local
Employment
Assistance Services (EAS
Office) and make an appointment
to register for WorkSource
Wage Subsidy. Do not forget
to bring your Social Insurance
Number and resume with you.
Procedure
Once you have met with an
EAS Case Manager and discussed
if a Wage Subsidy would be
appropriate for you, they
will guide you through the
following process:
- You will be asked to fill
out the WorkSource application
with your Case Manager. (The
application will consist of
basic information, return
to work goals and job preferences,
identifying barriers to employment
and will need to include a
current, up-to-date resume.)
-
You and your Case Manager
will develop a 'return to
work goals' plan stating your
employment preferences, your
strengths, your goals commitment,
and any barriers you might
have to achieving your employment
goal.
-
Your Case Manager will
submit your application to
WorkSource and depending on
which office you are working
with, either an appointment
will be made for you before
you leave, or a WorkSource
Consultant will contact you
to set up an appointment once
they have received your application
(within one week).
-
A WorkSource Consultant
will meet with you at your
EAS Office to discuss the
following:
- Confirm your suitability
for the WorkSource Wage Subsidy
Program
- Advise you of the
expectations for acceptance
onto the program
- Address employment
barriers and identify ways
in which the program can alleviate
them
- Review the general
terms of the Employer’s
responsibility under the program
- Instruct and provide
you with a letter of acceptance/eligibility
and self-marketing packages
to effectively promote the
wage subsidy program to potential,
suitable Employers
- Review how to find
and use the WorkSource online
Unmatched Employers List and
when appropriate, market you
to suitable prospective employers
What to expect once
you are hired:
- It is the responsibility
of the Employer to negotiate
wages and a start date with
you. It is the Employer’s
responsibility to contact
WorkSource and have the appropriate
paperwork submitted and signed
BEFORE you start your first
day (no exceptions). If you
start before the contract
has been signed, the Employer
will not be eligible to hire
you using a wage subsidy.
The contract will be signed
by the Employer. A signature
is not required from you but
you may be present at the
signing.
- At the contract signing,
the WorkSource Consultant
will request a monitor information
sheet be forwarded to you.
You will be assigned a Monitor
and this consultant will be
your contact if you have any
questions or concerns.
- You are considered a regular
Employee and the Employer
will be receiving reimbursement
from WorkSource for your payroll
costs.
- It is your responsibility
as an Employee to maintain
open communication at all
times with your Employer.
If you have any concerns about
how to do this, you can call
your Monitor consultant for
confidential advice.
